Publisher's Loft

The client's existing space housed an expansive book collection cluttering both living and leisure spaces. We embraced this as a design opportunity – how to elegantly incorporate the collection into the loft without it being an overwhelming and omnipresent element in the space.

B-KD's design used the library as infrastructure to organize the existing space. Custom designed shelving wraps around the perimeter at a 45 degree angle that allows the book collection to be viewed from one direction, while providing a three-dimensional wall that animates as natural light changes throughout the day in the other direction. The diagonal created by the shelves provides a motif extended throughout the space with custom tile work and wood flooring. Subtle shifts in geometry, light, and texture turn a functional challenge into an integrated, dynamic living environment that balances utility with quiet delight.
