Bob Smith at Martos Gallery

May 2022 show “Bob Smith: Art Remains A Witness to a Life” at Martos Gallery exhibits 25 box constructions from the artist’s estate. Created mainly in the 1980s in reaction to the AIDS crisis, 15 of the boxes are carefully hanged on gallery walls with recessed angles.

The rest of the box constructions were built with the intention of all four sides to be visible. The studio designed custom stainless-steel pedestals inspired by the tables Smith had designed for his own show in France in 1968 – a homage in the first exhibition of this body of work in three decades.
