Bob Smith at Martos Gallery

The May 2022 exhibition “Bob Smith: Art Remains A Witness to a Life” at Martos Gallery presented 25 box constructions from the late artist’s estate. Created primarily in the 1980s in reaction to the AIDS crisis, 15 of the boxes were carefully hung on the gallery walls using recessed angles that preserved their spatial intent. 

The remaining box constructions were built to be viewed in the round. The studio designed custom stainless-steel pedestals, inspired by tables Smith had designed for his own show in France in 1968, to showcase these constructions. This homage honored Smith's legacy in what marked the first public presentation of this body of work in three decades.
